Arthur Ingrams & The Starlight Serenaders is a vintage inspired big band project on Binary Sky Records. The music leans into the sound of swing era dance bands and small jazz orchestras, then gently updates the arrangements and production for modern ears.
The concept sits somewhere between an old archive that has been rediscovered and a brand new band that simply happens to live in that world. Brass, reeds and rhythm section all play their part, with melodies that feel like they could have slipped out of a smoke filled club in the 40s or 50s.
You will hear close voiced horns, walking bass, brushed drums and the occasional string or woodwind colour. The focus stays on clear melodies and that lift you get when a full band hits a chorus together. Some pieces are built around vocal features, others let the band stretch out instrumentally.
Production keeps the warmth and space of older recordings, while still giving enough clarity and weight that the tracks sit comfortably next to modern playlists.
