How We Work With Artists

Every artist and project is a little different.

Some people just need a release partner who can help with admin, strategy, and promotion. Others want a more traditional label relationship where the label invests in the project and handles the heavy lifting. Some prefer production and songwriting support while staying fully independent.

Binary Sky Records is built to handle all of these situations.

We welcome solo artists and full bands, and we also support acts that make creative use of AI tools. We have a clear AI usage policy so expectations stay simple and consistent across the roster. If we move forward, we’ll talk it through during the early conversations and share the full details as part of the process.

When you submit your music you don’t need to know which option fits yet. If we like what we hear, we’ll talk it through together and choose the route that makes the most sense for you and the release.

Option A: Production and songwriting support

For artists who want to stay fully independent while getting experienced backup behind the scenes.

We can:

  • listen to your tracks and give clear feedback on songs and production
  • help shape arrangements, structure, and hooks
  • help you organise the admin needed to release properly,

You keep:

  • full creative control
  • full ownership
  • final say on all decisions

Ideal if you have one or two tracks you want to push further, without needing a full label deal.

Option B: Partnership release

For artists who want to stay independent, but would like a trusted partner to release and grow the music.

Ownership
You keep ownership of your masters. Binary Sky licenses the track or project so we can distribute and promote it properly.

Revenue split
Income is split after any agreed direct costs (distribution, artwork, mastering, advertising, manufacturing). Percentages depend on the project and investment level, but everything is kept simple, transparent, and agreed in writing up front.

Creative control
You have final say on the music and artwork. We’ll give honest feedback and strong suggestions, but the last word on your art is always yours.

Partnership releases are ideal if you want control of your catalogue while tapping into Binary Sky’s systems, experience, and audience.

Option C: Full label release

This is closer to a traditional record deal, for projects where Binary Sky invests more heavily and takes a deeper role in the release.

Master rights
Binary Sky owns or controls the master recording for an agreed period. We handle distribution, pitching, campaigns, and any physical products that make sense.

Investment and recoup
We may cover recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, videos, promotion, and manufacturing. These costs are recouped from release income. Once recouped, you earn a royalty share on future income. Exact terms are agreed project by project and put in writing before work starts.

Creative direction and strategy
You bring the heart of the music. We’ll be more involved in decisions like single choices, artwork, timelines, and positioning. It’s collaborative, with the goal of giving the release its best chance.

Label releases suit artists where both sides want to build something bigger together, with a longer-term view.

Backstage

Alongside these options, Binary Sky runs a fan club called Backstage. It’s a paid month subscription that gives fans:

  • access to a private forum for fans and artists
  • a members-only listening room with music across the roster
  • early looks at upcoming releases and projects
  • extra posts, stories, and surprises from artists and the label

For fans, it’s a way to get closer to the music and the people making it. For artists, it’s a practical way to engage a growing community and earn extra income.

How fan subscriptions help artists

Once the club is established, we set aside a share of net subscription income each month into an Artist Pot for artists who are active in the community.

In plain terms:

  • fans subscribe to Backstage monthly
  • after payment and platform fees, a share goes into the Artist Pot
  • the remainder supports the running of Binary Sky and development of Backstage
  • active artists share the Artist Pot equally for that month

The principle is simple: support is linked to participation. Artists who show up, contribute, and take part in the community are the ones who benefit.

Full details are shared during signing and onboarding, including what counts as active and how the Artist Pot is worked out.
