Today we are opening up submissions at Binary Sky Records.
If you are an independent artist or band who feels you might fit the Binary Sky world, this post explains who we are looking for, how we work with artists and how to send us your music.
What this post is about
This is a simple guide for:
- Artists who are thinking about submitting music to Binary Sky
- Bands who want to understand how the label operates
It will not cover every legal detail. Those sit in the agreements we send if we decide to work together. This post is here so you can see the shape of the label and decide if it feels like a good fit before you press send.
Who we are looking for
Binary Sky Records works with:
- Solo artists and full bands
- As well as Alternative and indie acts, we support a very wide range of genres and are looking to widen our roster with a varied and growing artist base.
- Projects that combine traditional recording with creative use of AI tools
We care most about:
- Strong songs
- A clear story or point of view
- Artists who are prepared to grow a community, not just chase random streams
If you use AI in your production, that is fine. We simply ask that your lyrics are always written by a human and that you can stand behind the stories in your songs.
How we work with artists
If you want the full detail, there is a dedicated page that explains all of this. The link is near the bottom of this blog.
In short, there are three main options:
Production and Songwriting Support
You stay fully independent and keep all rights. We help in the background with song feedback, production ideas and release planning.
Partnership Release (50 / 50)
You own your masters. Binary Sky licenses the project for an agreed term so we can release and promote it properly. After agreed costs, net income is split fifty per cent to you and fifty per cent to the label.
Full Label Release
For projects where we invest more heavily and take on a deeper role in planning and promotion. We may cover recording, mastering, artwork and campaigns, then recoup those costs from income before paying you an agreed royalty.
You do not have to decide which of these you want before you submit. If we like what we hear, we will talk it through together and choose the option that makes sense for you and the release.
Where Backstage fits in
Alongside normal release income, Binary Sky runs a members area called Backstage.
Backstage is a paid fan club at £5 per month that gives supporters:
- Access to the Backstage Listening Room
- A fans and artists forum
- Early looks at new releases and projects
- Extra posts and updates from across the roster
Once Backstage has passed an initial setup stage, a fixed slice of the net subscription income is shared between the artists who are active in the club each month. That means a portion of members fees flows directly back to the people making the music.
Full details of how Backstage works are shared with artists during the onboarding process, but it is useful to know that there is a second income stream sitting alongside your usual royalties.
What happens when you submit
Here is what to expect when you send music to Binary Sky.
1. We receive your submission
Your tracks and information arrive in the label inbox through the submissions form.
2. We listen and make a first judgement
We listen to your songs, the sound and whether your music feels like it belongs alongside the projects already on the roster.
3. We look at the bigger picture
If the music feels right, we will also look at your current online presence. That might include your social links, previous releases or any information you share about your goals.
It's not a deal breaker for us if you have a small online following, whats more important to us is the music. Some of the best music we have ever heard comes from musicians with tiny followings. Don't let the fact you're not followed by a million fans on Instagram or TikTok put you off, let your music do the talking.
4.We follow up by email
If we think there is a good fit, we will get in touch to talk about next steps and which type of deal might suit the project.
If we decide to pass, we will let you know in a clear and respectful way.
How to send us your music
If you have read this far and still feel like Binary Sky could be a home for your music, here is where to go next.
1. Click here to read the full How We Work With Artists page so you understand the different options:
2. Then click here to the Submissions page and complete the form there:
Please include:
- Streaming links to your best tracks
- A short introduction to you or your band
- Any key information about how the music was made (for example AI tools used, collaborators involved)
You do not need a perfect plan or a huge following to get in touch. A strong song, a clear story and an honest introduction are more important than big numbers at this stage.
Final thoughts
Binary Sky Records is a small label that wants to build long term partnerships, not quick one off moments.
If you feel like your music and mindset fit what you have just read, we would genuinely like to hear from you.
Start with the How We Work With Artists page, then send your tracks through the Submissions form when you are ready.
We read every submission and we are always interested in artists who want to grow something real.
